News / Mayfair’s Mercante and La Gelatiera say Ciao! to the summer season with exclusive flavour sensations

Authentic Italian restaurant Mercante has partnered with artisan gelato makers La Gelatiera to bring the taste of Italy to London this summer. An new range of ice cream can be enjoyed either on-the-go from the pop-up retro gelato cart on Mercante’s terrace, or as part of an innovative three-course ice cream pairing menu showcasing exclusive flavour combinations such as Panzanella salad with extra virgin olive oil ice cream. Further quirky flavours, created by Mercante and unique to the restaurant, such as pear and ricotta, and bread and marbled Nutella, will be introduced over the summer season.    


Both teams of tastemakers have come together to create a unique offering of ice-creams, with fresh flavours including honey, rosemary and orange zest, quirky pairings ranging from basil and chilli to Cornish blue and caramelised walnuts, as well as some classic favourites such as milk chocolate and the renowned Sicilian pistachio sorbet, the ultimate winning flavour for London and the South East at the 2015’s great taste awards. The full gelato menu can be enjoyed on Mercante’s terrace which provides a relaxing spot, overlooking Green Park, to indulge in Summer’s go-to treat.  

For more intrepid diners, the team at Mercante has developed a three-course pairing menu, showcasing brand new gelato flavours. The tastes, exclusively available at Mercante, have been developed by head chef Davide D’ignazio to bring together classic Italian plates with a uniquely refreshing summer touch. Delectable dishes include a starter of Panzanella salad with extra virgin olive oil ice cream, followed by a main course of red poll beef tartare with applewood ice cream, and completed with a dessert of orange and almond cake with candied Sicilian orange ice cream.   

Unique flavours of summer’s hottest refresher will continue to be released throughout the season. The Mercante team have whipped up innovative combinations, exclusive to the restaurant, from a sweet and savoury pairing with the pear and ricotta ice cream, to a zingy wild Italian cherry gelato, to the boozy peach and amaretto combination.    
 
The menu will be available daily inside the restaurant and outside on Mercante’s new outdoor terrace from May until September.
