The Park Lane Hotel raises a glass to the 175th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

The Park Lane Hotel is marking the 175th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert with a special menu of cocktails. The four cocktails will be available from the 10thof February, the date of the Royal Wedding in 1840, in the beautiful Palm Court, just a short walk from Buckingham Palace.

The light and dark cocktails, created by the Palm Court’s talented mixologist David Lawlor, symbolise the contrast between Queen Victoria’s married life and her life after Prince Albert’s death. The White Wedding (Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select Bourbon, Vanilla, Milk, Orange Blossom Flower Water and Fresh Citrus) and Her Royal Highness (Sazerac Rye Whiskey, Bramley & Gage Cherry Brandy, Fullers London Pride Ale, Egg and Spiced Sugar Syrup) have been inspired by Queen Victoria’s dress and her years happily married. While the Widow of Windsor (Beefeater Gin, Dubonnet, Campari, Apricot Brandy, with a Chivas Regal rinse) and The Serpent (Chiva’s Regal 12yr Scottish Whiskey, Apricot Brandy, Green Chartreuse, Dolin Sweet Vermouth and Peychaud’s Bitters) represent the 40 years of mourning Queen Victoria went into after Prince Albert’s death and her eternal love for him.

Queen Victoria married her German cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace and their wedding breakfast was held at Buckingham Palace. This was the first wedding of a reigning Queen in England since 1554. Victoria wore a white dress and has been credited with starting the tradition for white wedding dresses. On their engagement, Prince Albert presented Victoria with a serpent ring as a token of his devotion as the snake is a symbol of eternal love.

The Palm Court at The Park Lane Hotel is one of London’s finest examples of Art Deco design. The Queen Victoria and Prince Albert cocktails will be available daily from the 10th February to 31st March 2015 for £11 each.
